桃李不言下自成蹊

Peach and plum trees do not speak, yet beneath them a path forms by itself.

桃李不會說話，樹下卻自然被人走出一條小路。

桃や李は語らないが、その下には自然と小道ができる。

Character attracts without announcing itself. Like fruit and blossom drawing repeated footsteps, genuine merit becomes known through what it offers rather than through claims made on its own behalf.

品格不必高聲宣告，也能使人靠近。正如花果吸引反覆而來的腳步，真正的德行與價值，是由它所給出的東西被認識，而非靠自我標榜。

本当の人柄や価値は自ら宣伝せずとも、それが与えるものを通して人に知られていきます。

燕雀安知鴻鵠之志哉

How could swallows and sparrows understand the ambition of a great swan?

燕雀怎會明白鴻鵠遠大的志向呢？

燕や雀に、どうして鴻鵠の大志が分かろうか。

An aspiration may be invisible to those whose horizon is different. The line preserves the inner scale of a purpose before circumstances provide any evidence that others can recognize.

當彼此看見的地平線不同，一份志向未必能被旁人理解。此句守住的是：在現實尚未提供足以讓人相信的證據之前，仍不縮小內心所認定的方向。

まだ結果が見えない時にも、他者の理解に合わせて自分の志を小さくしない心を表します。

運籌策帷帳之中決勝於千里之外

Planning within the command tent, one determines victory a thousand li away.

在帷帳之中籌劃方略，便能決定千里之外的勝負。

帷幕の中で策をめぐらし、千里の外の勝敗を決する。

Preparation extends the reach of action. Good strategy identifies relationships, timing, and consequences before movement begins, so that distant outcomes are shaped by present judgment.

充分準備能延伸行動的作用範圍。好的謀略在動身之前先辨明關係、時機與後果，使遙遠的結果得以被眼前的判斷逐步塑造。

よい準備は行動の届く範囲を広げ、遠い結果を今の判断から形づくります。

不鳴則已一鳴驚人

It may remain silent; once it cries out, it astonishes everyone.

不發聲便罷，一旦發聲就使眾人驚異。

鳴かないならそれまでだが、ひとたび鳴けば人を驚かす。

Silence need not mean absence of capacity. Time spent observing and gathering strength can make the eventual act more precise, though the value lies in readiness rather than surprise itself.

沉默未必表示沒有能力。觀察與蓄積力量的時間，可以使後來的行動更準確；真正重要的不是製造驚奇，而是在需要出手時已經準備好。

沈黙は力の欠如とは限りません。観察と蓄積が、必要な時の的確な行動を支えます。
